A new upper spring strut journal was brought into production in conjunction with the introduction of the 1985 models.
An axial ball bearing, P/N 1273747-4 (see left,) is part of the journal.
It is important when installing a new bearing that the yellow side faces up. If the bearing is installed upside down, it could be compressed when
reassembling to the suspension tower. This could cause: stiff steering, poor return of steering wheel, or front end noise.
Two different bearings are used:
INA:
yellow/grey (color of top SKF: yellow/orange and bottom)
Strut bearing, replacing
Raise front of vehicle and remove wheels
Place axle stands beneath jack attachment points.
