Steering Wheel: Service and Repair
LESS SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT

1.
Remove horn pad from steering wheel.
2.
Remove steering wheel retaining nut, Fig. 1.
3.
Remove steering wheel.
4.
Remove upper and lower column casing attaching screws, then remove casings.
5.
Reverse procedure to install. Ensure turn signal lever returns to original position when steering wheel is turned.
WITH SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT

1.
Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2.
Remove two torx screws from rear of steering wheel, then disconnect electrical connector and remove air bag assembly, Fig. 2.
3.
Remove center attaching screw from steering wheel.
4.
Loosen screw at end of plastic strap from ``Park'' position in steering wheel.
5.
Place screw in pin on contact reel. Screw will now lock contact reel in zero position. Be careful not to turn steering wheel. Otherwise it will
shear head off lock pin.
6.
Remove steering wheel.
7.
Remove upper and lower column casing attaching screws, then remove casings.
8.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Position steering wheel so contact reel pin is in center of hole in steering wheel.
b. Torque center bolt to 24 ft. lbs.
c. Torque torx screws to 8 ft. lbs.
d. Ensure wires are not kinked or pinched.
