If the problem falls in the first group of symptoms, go to step 3.

If the problem falls in the second group of symptoms, go to step 2.
2.
Perform the limit switch input test of the 1997-98 3.0CL Service Manual, and check for loose or damaged wires and connectors.

If a problem is found, disregard this bulletin and follow normal troubleshooting procedures.

If no problems are found, continue to step 3.
3.
Remove the seat from the vehicle, and set it on a cloth-covered bench.
4.
Remove the seat base subassembly referring to the 1997-98 3.0CL Service Manual.
5.
Transfer the original control unit and recline motor to the new seat base, and reassemble the seat.
6.
Set the seat in the vehicle, and reconnect the connectors.
7.
Reinstall the seat, and torque the seat mounting bolts to 34 N.m (25 lb-ft). Reinstall the seat track end covers.
8.
Move the seat to the end of its travel in both forward and reverse directions to set the new control unit.
9.
Position the seat in the middle of its travel. Lift the seat-back release lever, and make sure the seat moves forward. Then make sure it moves back
into its original position when you return the seat-back to the upright position.
