Air Bag: Removal and Replacement

Front Passenger's Airbag Replacement
NOTE: If replacing the front passenger's airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/ Inspection After Deployment See: Service and
Repair for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.
Removal
1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure See: Starting and Charging/Battery/Service and Repair/Procedures, then wait at least 3 minutes
before starting work.
2. Remove the glove box See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Glove Compartment/Service and Repair/Glove Box Removal/Installation.
3. Disconnect the dashboard wire harness 4P connector (A) from the front passenger's airbag inflator, then remove the three nuts (B).
4. Remove the upper dashboard panel/front passenger's airbag assembly See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Dashboard / Instrument
Panel/Service and Repair/Upper Dashboard Panel Removal/Installation.
If you are replacing a deployed airbag, install a new airbag and a new upper dashboard panel See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Dashboard
/ Instrument Panel/Service and Repair/Upper Dashboard Panel Removal/Installation.
5. Cut the four parts (A) of the upper dashboard panel (B) as shown, and remove the front passenger's airbag.
NOTE:

Always replace the upper dashboard panel whenever you remove the airbag from the panel.

Replace the airbag if the airbag mounting hooks or its housing is damaged.
