Emissions Recall: Incorrect Throttle Body Installed
BACKGROUND
American Honda has identified 130 2005 RSXs that had an incorrect throttle body installed according to Service Bulletin 04-010, MIL Comes On with
DTC P0122. One version of this service bulletin listed incorrect part numbers for the 2005 RSX throttle body. The current version of SIB 04-010, dated
July 26, 2007, includes the correct part numbers.
The incorrect throttle body decreases the EVAP system's ability to purge the fuel vapor canister. While the incorrect throttle body seems to fit and looks
the same as the original, the PCS tube (purge valve vacuum hose) connector on the EVAP canister purge valve has a different diameter. To install the
incorrect throttle body, some technicians may have modified the PCS tube. Others may have also transferred the EVAP canister purge valve from the
original throttle body to the incorrect one. This mix-and-match of parts does not correct the purge problem because internal passages within the throttle
body are also different diameters.
To correctly repair an affected vehicle, you need to replace the throttle body using the correct part number listed in this service bulletin. You also need to
inspect the PCS tube, and replace it if its inside diameter is wrong.
VEHICLES AFFECTED
This service bulletin affects only 130 2005 RSXs that were repaired with the wrong throttle body. Because there is no sequential VIN range for these 130
vehicles, you must verify eligibility by checking at least one of these items:

The client has a notification letter.

The vehicle is shown as eligible on a VIN status inquiry.
In addition, check for a punch mark above the first character of the engine compartment VIN. A punch mark in that location means this emissions recall
has already been done.
CLIENT NOTIFICATION
All owners of affected vehicles will be sent a notification of this campaign the week of November 19, 2007. An example of the client notification is at
the end of this service bulletin.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the throttle body and, if needed, the PCS tube (purge valve vacuum hose).
