If both solenoids measure less than 50 ohms, refer to page 36 of the 1996 SLX ETM. Check for a short to ground between the 4WD indicator
and the front axle switch.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the vacuum solenoid valve assembly. Pack the vacuum solenoid valve connectors with lithium dielectric grease.
1.
Note the routing and positions of the hoses on the vacuum solenoid valves (three per valve). The hoses with a blue marking connect to the blue
solenoid valve, and the hoses with a gray marking connect to the gray solenoid valve. Verify the connections with the illustration. Then disconnect
the hoses.
2.
Remove the vacuum solenoid valve assembly from the axle (one bolt).
3.
Put lithium dielectric grease (see REQUIRED MATERIALS) in the electrical terminal cavities of the new solenoid valve assembly. Fill each
terminal cavity halfway.
