Canister Purge Solenoid: Description and Operation
Carbon Canister Shut-Off Valve
The carbon canister shut-off valve is a normally closed solenoid valve which opens when energized by the ECU. When the engine is off, the valve is
closed to prevent accumulation of fuel vapors in the intake system that may create a hard start condition when the engine is restarted while hot. The ECU
energizes the valve whenever the engine is running at greater than 1,400 rpm. This allows fuel vapors directly from the fuel tank into the intake air
stream.
