Remove two screws from lower side of steering column trim, then remove trim top section.

On 1992 100 models, ensure steering wheel is in straight ahead position, then unclip airbag unit connector from housing and disconnect, Fig. 10.

On models except 1992 100, disconnect spiral spring connector, Fig. 11, then remove airbag from vehicle and store face up (Audi rings pointing
up) in a safe place. Do not expose airbag unit to excessive heat (above 212°F) or place near anything that may puncture it.

Remove steering wheel nut and steering wheel.

12.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Ensure no one is inside of vehicle when connecting battery ground cable.
