Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair
Disassembly and Assembly

    When disassembling strut, compress spring with tool US 1117, V.A.G. 1403 or VW 340 or their equivalents and remove nut from shock absorber
using tool 3017A or 3078 or their equivalents. When assembling, note the following:

1.

Push protective cap over shock absorber.

2.

Push bump stop into protective sleeve, then attach to rubber damper ring.

3.

Dust rubber cap and rubber damper ring with talcum powder.

4.

Hole in upper retainer ring must be centered.

5.

Two lugs of damper ring must be seated against spring retainer.

6.

Lower spring retainer stop for coil spring must align with hole for lower strut mounting.
