Drive/Propeller Shaft: Adjustments

Propeller shaft work must be performed with vehicle on a suitable dual support hoist.
1.
On 200 models, remove catalytic converter and exhaust pipe.
2.
On 100 models, remove catalytic converter, then tie exhaust pipe to left side of vehicle with wire.
3.
On all models, remove support, if necessary, then loosen propeller shaft bolts at transmission, differential and center support.
4.
Install alignment tool 3139 or equivalent on driveshaft and tighten plastic nuts.
5.
Remove center support mounting bolts and washers.
6.
Measure distance ``a'' as shown in
Fig. 11. Clearance must be equal on both sides.
7.
Select adjustment washers from chart in
Fig. 12, to correct clearance if necessary.
8.
Reverse procedure to install parts loosened or removed. Tighten nuts and bolts to specifications.
