Drive/Propeller Shaft: Service and Repair

    Propeller shaft work must be performed with vehicle on a suitable dual support hoist.

1.

On 200 models, remove catalytic converter and exhaust pipe.

2.

On 100 models, remove catalytic converter, then tie exhaust pipe to left side of vehicle with wire.

3.

Remove support, if necessary, then loosen propeller shaft bolts at transmission, differential and center support.

4.

Ensure white dot on rear propeller shaft flange aligned with a black dot on differential flange. If not, scribe mark on propeller shaft and differential
flanges prior to disassembly.

5.

Install alignment tool 3139 or equivalent on driveshaft and tighten plastic nuts.

6.

Remove propeller shaft bolts at transmission and differential, then support propeller shaft and tool and remove center support bolts.

7.

Remove propeller shaft together with alignment tool. Do not bend propeller shaft. Store and transport together with tool.

8.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Propeller shaft and differential flanges must be installed so that painted marks or scribe marks are aligned.
b. Always check alignment after installation.
c. Adjust propeller shaft, refer to Transmission and Drivetrain/Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings and Joints/Drive/Propeller Shaft

/Adjustments.

d. Tighten nuts and bolts to specifications.
