If 5th/reverse gear is jamming or sticking after adjustment of the shifter mechanism, the 5th/reverse interlock must be removed and checked or replaced
before removing and disassembling the transmission.
Assemble the interlock, if necessary, using the following procedure. Check the interlock according to the assembled position shown in Fig. 2 below.

1 = plastic bushing
2 = sealing ring
3 = plunger
4 = spring
Assembling
^
insert spring 4 into plastic bushing 1 and turn counter-clockwise while pressing in until spring engages at bottom of bushing
^
place plunger 3 on spring and engage spring in groove
^
compress spring with plunger and turn approximately one rotation counter-clockwise until lug on plunger lines up with groove in bushing
^
press lug of plunger into groove up to stop
^
turn and loosen plunger clockwise
^
plunger will spring into correct end position
