Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
Removing
–  Remove wheels.
–  Raise vehicle.
–  Use pliers (commercially available type) to press back brake pads slightly in caliper.
  Note
This makes it easier to pull the brake caliper off the brake disc.

–  Pull both caps -14- out of bearing bushes in brake caliper.
–  Unscrew both guide pins -13- and remove from brake caliper.
–  Detach brake caliper -11-.
–  Remove brake caliper and secure with wire so that weight of brake caliper does not strain or damage brake hose.
  WARNING
Do not leave the brake caliper hanging from the brake hose.
Installing
Renew guide pins.
l  Piston in brake caliper is pressed back.
–  Slide brake caliper with pads fitted over brake disc.

–  Install brake caliper with brake pads on wheel bearing housing.
  N46-0147
–  First locate brake caliper with brake pads at bottom of brake carrier -arrow-.
–  Then press brake caliper (with brake pads fitted) further over brake disc.
–  Bolt brake caliper to brake carrier with both guide pins.
l  Stud on brake caliper must be positioned behind guide on brake carrier.
  N46-0147
–  Tighten both guide pins -13-.
–  Fit the two caps -14-.
–  Fit wheels.
Tightening torque for wheel bolts → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.44
–  Lower vehicle.
  Note
t  Firmly depress the brake pedal several times with the vehicle stationary, so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
t  Check brake fluid level.
  Caution
Make sure that the brakes work properly before the vehicle is driven on the road.
