Removing and installing brake master cylinder > < Adjusting ball head on brake servo

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hose clamps up to 25 mm diameter -3094-
t  Brake filling and bleeding equipment -VAS 5234-
Removing
   
–  Unplug connector -3-.
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Rep. gr.23.
Vehicles with clutch:
  A23-10381
–  Clamp off supply hose of clutch master cylinder using hose clamps up to Ø 25 mm -3094-.
–  Pull off supply hose for clutch master cylinder.
All vehicles (continued):
–  Unplug electrical connector for brake fluid level warning contact --F34--.
  A30-0127
–  Draw off as much brake fluid as possible from brake fluid reservoir using brake filling and bleeding equipment -VAS 5234- and adapter -VAS 5234/1-.
  WARNING
t  Do not under any circumstances allow brake fluid to come into contact with fluids that contain mineral oils (e.g. oil, petrol, cleaning agents). Mineral oils damage the plugs and seals in the brake system.
t  Brake fluid is poisonous and must NOT be drawn off by sucking through a hose. On account of its corrosive effect it must also not be allowed to come into contact with paintwork.
t  Brake fluid that has been extracted from the system must not be re-used.
t  Always observe the relevant environmental regulations for disposal.
–  As protection against escaping brake fluid, place a sufficient number of lint-free cloths in area beneath brake master cylinder.

–  Unclip brake fluid reservoir at position -2- and pull off upwards.
Installing
Do not remove dust cap from new brake fluid reservoir until reservoir is ready to be filled.
–  Lubricate plugs on brake fluid reservoir with brake fluid.
–  Insert brake fluid reservoir in sealing plugs in brake master cylinder.

–  Clip brake fluid reservoir into mountings -2- on both sides of brake master cylinder.
Vehicles with clutch:
–  Connect supply hose for clutch master cylinder to brake fluid reservoir.
All vehicles (continued):
  Note
  A47-0220
To prevent brake fluid from overflowing from the reservoir, the brake fluid level must not be above the „MAX“ mark -1-.
–  Plug in electrical connector for brake fluid level warning contact --F34--.
  N01-10670
–  Install air cleaner housing → Rep. gr.23.
–  Plug in connector -3-.
–  Fill up brake fluid reservoir to „MAX“ mark.
–  Bleed brake system → Chapter with brake filling and bleeding equipment -VAS 5234-.
–  Carry out ESP road test and system test.
  Caution
Make sure that the brakes work properly before the vehicle is driven on the road.
