Sequence of operations
–  Working from the opening for the coolant hoses, check the distance between the noise insulation mat -2- and the bulkhead -1-.
l  The clearance (dimension -x-) must be sufficient to permit drainage of the condensation out of the condensation drain opening -3-.
l  There is no flap at the outlet opening; the condensation drains off via the rubber lip.

–  Vehicles with TDI engine: Remove the air cleaner housing → Rep. gr.23.
–  Separate the noise insulation mat -1- at the perforation -arrow A-.
–  Check the condensation drain -2- of the air conditioning unit for contamination and clean with a piece of wire if necessary.
l  The cross-section -arrow B- of the condensation drain hose must not be constricted (squashed).
In the event of moisture problems in the passenger compartment, check the following components in addition to the condensation drain:
l  Water drain for plenum chamber → Chapter.
l  Plenum chamber cover for damage and correct installation → Rep. gr.50.
l  Dust and pollen filter for contamination and correct installation → Chapter.
l  Forced air extractors in luggage compartment → Chapter.
l  Actuation and operation of air recirculation flap (e.g. by way of „Final control diagnosis“) in „Guided fault-finding“ function → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
In the event of problems with moisture in the passenger compartment which only occurs with the air conditioner compressor switched on under certain ambient conditions, additionally check the temperature of the air flowing out of the evaporator → Vehicle diagnostic tester, „Guided fault-finding“ function.
l  Read the measured value of the evaporator output temperature sender -G263-.

–  Check the temperature of the air flowing out of the evaporator under the usage conditions described by the customer or with the following settings on the operating unit:
Vehicles with manually controlled air conditioner:
–  Settings on operating unit, air conditioning system control unit -J301-.
l  A/C compressor switched on (lamp in AC button -4- lights), rotary temperature adjustment switch -1- on „Cold“ stop.
l  Lowest possible fresh air blower speed set (rotary fresh air blower speed switch -2- in setting „1“), fresh air mode (lamp in air recirculation button -5- does not light), dash panel vents open.

Vehicles with automatically controlled air conditioner:
–  Settings on operating unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-.
l  „Auto“ mode, air conditioner compressor switched on (lamp in AC button -6- lights), rotary temperature switch -1- on „Cold“ stop.
l  Medium fresh air blower speed with a voltage of approx. 7 V at the fresh air blower -V2-, fresh air mode (lamp in air recirculation button-4- not lit), dash panel vents open.
All vehicles (continued):
–  If the measured value of the evaporator output temperature sender -G263- is too low (at ambient temperature above 0 °C, colder than 0 °C for lengthy period) or too high (greater than e.g. 10 °C although air conditioner is functioning properly), heed information on checking cooling output → Chapter.
