Removing and installing ambient temperature sensorG17 > < Controlling and regulating components of air conditioner (not in passenger compartment)
Components not located in passenger compartment

Components not located in passenger compartment
Component group „1“
1 - Receiver
q   Integrated into condenser
q   Exploded view → Chapter
2 - Condenser
q   Only to be removed after draining refrigerant circuit → Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a
q   Exploded view → Chapter
3 - Air conditioner compressor regulating valve -N280-
q   Fitted in air conditioner compressor
q   Checking cut-in signal → Chapter
4 - Air conditioner compressor
q   Different versions → Electronic parts catalogue
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Detaching and attaching refrigerant line at air conditioner compressor → Chapter
q   Renewing pulley → Chapter
5 - Label
q   Indicates type of refrigerant and specified capacity
q   For refrigerant R134a capacity and notes on refrigerant, refer to → Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a
6 - Right water drain
q   Checking → Chapter
7 - Left forced air extractor
q   Checking → Chapter
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
8 - Right forced air extractor
q   Checking → Chapter
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
9 - Heated rear window -Z1-
q   Not part of air conditioner controls
q   Checking actuation → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations and „Guided fault-finding“Onboard supply control unit -J519- → Vehicle diagnostic tester
10 - Left water drain
q   Checking → Chapter
11 - Ambient temperature sensor -G17-
q   The measured value of the ambient temperature sensor -G17- is evaluated by the control unit in dash panel insert -J285- and transmitted via the data bus to the operating unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- / air conditioning system control unit -J301-. For checking, „read measured values“ in the „Guided fault-finding“ function, dash panel, air conditioner → Vehicle diagnostic tester
q   Removing and installing → Chapter

Component group „2“
1 - Expansion valve
  Note
After switching off the air conditioner compressor, a relatively long period may elapse before the pressure on the high-pressure end decreases (the expansion valve is cold and the pressure on the low-pressure end increases rapidly after switch-off, the expansion valve closes and the refrigerant can only flow slowly to the low-pressure end).
q   Exploded view → Chapter
2 - Radiator fan -V7-
q   The request for radiator fan cut-in is transmitted by the operating unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- / air conditioning system control unit -J301- via the data bus to the corresponding engine control unit. This engine control unit then actuates the radiator fan -V7- directly or by way of the radiator fan control unit → Rep. gr.19
q   To check actuation of the radiator fans by the operating unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- / air conditioning system control unit -J301-, „read measured values“ in the „Guided fault-finding“ function → Vehicle diagnostic tester
q   The corresponding engine control unit switches the radiator fan -V7- (either directly or by way of the radiator fan control unit) to any desired output (depending on engine type) → Vehicle diagnostic tester, „Guided fault-finding“ function and → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
q   Depending on the vehicle model, a radiator fan 2 -V177- may also be fitted → Rep. gr.19.
3 - Service connection on high-pressure end
q   For measurement, drainage and filling of refrigerant circuit → Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a
q   Cap with seal, always to be screwed on
  Caution
The refrigerant circuit must be drained before removing the service connections (the connection has no valve).
4 - High-pressure sender -G65-
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Checking → Chapter
q   8 Nm
5 - Service connection on low-pressure end
q   For measurement and drainage of refrigerant circuit → Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a
q   Cap with seal, always to be screwed on
  Caution
The refrigerant circuit must be drained before removing the service connections (the connection has no valve).
6 - Fresh air intake grille
q   Stops foreign matter (e.g. leaves) ingressing into the intake housing of the air conditioning unit
q   Check for proper attachment
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
7 - Condensation drain
q   Checking → Chapter
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
