Renewing gear oil Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782-

t  Adapter for oil filling -VAS 6262 A- with -VAS 6262/4- Procedure   Note t  Please refer to → Chapter „Repair instructions“. t  Please refer to → Chapter „Rules for cleanliness when working on the gearbox“. t  Please refer to general notes on „Environmental and waste disposal regulations for oil“ → Chapter. t  The gearbox is filled for life. t  The gear oil level cannot be checked. t  If the gearbox is leaking, trace the cause of the leak and repair as required. t  Then the gearbox oil must be completely drained off and the gearbox filled with new gear oil. l  Engine not running. –  Shift selector lever into position „P“. –  Remove air cleaner housing → Injection and glow plug system; Rep. gr.23 or → Injection and ignition system; Rep. gr.24.

–  Place used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- below gearbox. –  Remove oil drain plug -arrow- from gearbox.

–  Allow oil to drain off, then retighten oil drain plug.   Note t  The gear oil level cannot be checked. t  It is important to fill in exactly the amount of gear oil specified. t  This is the only way to ensure the gearbox is filled correctly. t  Both overfilling and underfilling impair the function of the gearbox.   Caution Risk of damage to gearbox t  Use only the ATF available as a replacement part for the 7-speed dual clutch gearbox 0AM → Electronic parts catalogue. t  Other types of oil cause malfunctions and/or failure of the gearbox.

–  Pull off breather cap -arrow- next to gearbox selector lever.   Note For illustration purposes, the installation position is shown with the gearbox removed.   Caution Risk of damage to gearbox The adapter for oil filling -VAS 6262 A- with -VAS 6262/4- must be clean; the gear oil must not be mixed with any other types of oil.

–  Screw container of gear oil for 7-speed dual clutch gearbox onto adapter for oil filling -VAS 6262 A-; for part number refer to → Electronic parts catalogue. –  Put down oil container so that oil does not run into filler hose.

–  Attach adapter -VAS 6262/4- to filler hose and connect to breather opening on gearbox. –  Turn oil container upside down and fill gearbox with the exact amount of oil required; see specified capacity → Chapter.

–  Disconnect adapter -VAS 6262/4- and fit breather cap -arrow-. –  Install air cleaner housing → Injection and glow plug system; Rep. gr.23 or → Injection and ignition system; Rep. gr.24.
