You have certainly experienced light electric shocks when touching metal objects. This is due to the electrostatic charge accumulated by the human body. This charge can cause malfunctions if you touch the electric steering box components. –  Before working on electrical components, touch an earthed object (e.g. water pipe or lifting platform). Do not touch the contact pins of the electrical connectors.
