Removing and installing electronic steering column lock control unit -J764-
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Socket -T10424-
   
Removing
–  When renewing control unit select „Replacement“ function for appropriate control unit in „Guided Fault Finding“ or „Guided Functions“ → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
–  Remove steering column switch module → Chapter.
–  Unplug electrical connector -2- by sliding locking element -1- to rear and pressing down release catch.
–  Remove shear bolt -3- using socket -T10424-.
–  Detach electronic steering column lock control unit -item 4-.
  Note
If it is not possible to remove the shear bolt with the socket -T10424-, the bolt will need to be drilled out using an angle drill and a Ø 8.5 mm bit.

Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
–  Tighten new bolts -arrows- until head shears off.
–  Install steering column switch module → Chapter.
–  If warning lamp for steering angle sender -G85- lights up after electronic steering column lock control unit -J764- has been renewed, perform calibration of steering angle sender in „Guided Fault Finding“ or „Guided Functions“ mode → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
