Adjusting handbrake

Note:

Adjustment is only necessary after replacing handbrake cables and brake calipers.

  • ‒ Remove centre console.

=> General Body Assembly, Interior; Repair group 68; Storage compartments, covers and trims; Removing and installing centre console.

  • ‒ Firmly press brake pedal once.
 
N46-0018
  • ‒ → Handbrake lever in rest position. Tighten adjusting nuts -arrows- until levers on brake calipers lift away from stops.
 
N46-0167
  • ‒ → A gap of max. 1.5 mm from stop (arrow) is permissible on each side but should be set the same on both sides.
  • ‒ Apply handbrake firmly 3 times and then release it again.
  • ‒ Check whether both wheels can spin freely. If necessary, screw back adjusting nuts slightly.
  • ‒ Secure the adjusting nuts with counternuts.
  • ‒ Install centre console,

=> General Body Assembly, Interior; Repair group 68; Storage compartments, covers and trims; Removing and installing centre console.

Note:

It is unnecessary to adjust the handbrake after readjustment owing to the automatic adjustment of the rear brakes.
