Checking the function of the fresh-air/recirculated-air button in the heater control electronics
Checking the function of the fresh-air/recirculated-air button in the heater control electronics
–  Remove the glove box: → General Body Repairs, Interior; Repair group 68

–  Unplug the connector -A- from the fresh-air/recirculated-air flap positioning motor -V154-.
–  Switch on the ignition.
–  Turn the air distribution controller to the “dash panel vents”.
The button for the fresh-air/recirculated-air flap is not pressed (the warning lamp in the button does not light up).
–  Connect the voltage tester -V.A.G 1527/B- between contacts -4- and -6- in the connector -A-.
t  If one of the LEDs in the voltage tester -V.A.G 1527/B- lights up, this indicates that positive is being applied to the contact -4- and earth to the contact -6- (fresh-air mode).
  Note
The positioning motor connectors are interchanged on RHD vehicles. → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
–  Press the button for the fresh-air/recirculated-air flap (recirculated-air mode; the warning lamp in the button lights up).

t  If the other LED in the voltage tester -V.A.G 1527/B- lights up, this indicates that positive is being now applied to contact -6- and earth to contact -4- (recirculated-air mode).
–  Turn the knob for air distribution to the “air to windscreen” position.
t  The warning lamp in the button for recirculated-air mode goes out.
t  If the other LED in the voltage tester -V.A.G 1527/B- lights up, this indicates that positive is now being applied to the contact -4- and earth to the contact -6- (fresh-air mode).
  Note
t  If there is no fault found in this test:
t  Check that the fresh-air/recirculated-air flap is moving freely
t  Replace the fresh-air/recirculated-air flap positioning motor -V154-
t  If the function is not OK:
t  Check for an open circuit or short circuit in the wiring between the heater control electronics and the fresh-air/recirculated-air flap positioning motor -V154-. → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
t  Check the power supply and earth connection to the heater control electronics.
t  Replace the heater control electronics → Chapter.
