Removing and installing selector cables - exploded view
  Note
Lubricate all bearings and moving surfaces with polycarbamide grease -G 052 142 A2-.
1 - Gate selector cable
q   On gate selector lever
q   Installation position → Chapter
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Apply silicone grease -G 000 405 A2- in area of rubber boot/clamping pieces → Anchor
2 - Gear selector cable
q   Press onto gear lever guide
q   Installation position → Chapter
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Apply silicone grease -G 000 405 A2- in area of rubber boot/clamping pieces → Anchor
3 - Securing clip
4 - Selector housing
5 - Retaining clip
q   Take care not to damage selector cables when removing.
6 - Clamping pieces
q   Always renew
q   Press into rubber boot → Item
q   Apply silicone grease -G 000 405 A2- to openings for cables → Anchor
7 - Rubber boot
8 - Retaining clip
q   For wiring harness
9 - Bolt
q   20 Nm
q   For support bracket
10 - Support bracket
11 - Grommet
q   For support bracket mounting on gearbox
12 - Distance piece
13 - Nut
q   10 Nm
q   Secures retaining clip → Item to support bracket
14 - Cable end-piece
q   Secures gear selector cable to gearbox selector lever
q   Removing → Fig.
q   Installing → Fig.
q   Must be renewed if removed
15 - Gearbox selector lever
q   With damper weight
q   Install so that gap in splines aligns with selector shaft → Fig.
q   After installing, adjust selector mechanism → Chapter
q   Installation position → Fig.
16 - Nut
q   20 Nm
q   Self-locking
q   Always renew
17 - Securing clip
18 - Bearing bush
19 - Slide block
q   Apply polycarbamide grease -G 052 142 A2-
20 - Relay lever
q   Installation position → Fig.
21 - Cable end-piece
q   Secures gate selector cable to relay lever
q   Removing → Fig.
q   Installing → Fig.
q   Must be renewed if removed

   
Installation position of gearbox selector lever, relay lever and locking pin
1 - Gearbox selector lever with damper weight
2 - Relay lever - locates in guide rail of gearbox selector lever via slide block -arrow-
3 - Locking pin - for adjusting selector mechanism

Installing gearbox selector lever
–  When installing gearbox selector lever, make sure that the gap in the splines -arrow A- aligns with the wider spline -arrow B- on the selector shaft.

Detach cable end-piece from gearbox selector lever and relay lever
  Note
Renew detached cable end-pieces.
–  Lever off cable-end piece for gate selector cable -A- using open-end spanner -1- and gear selector cable -B- using open-end spanner -1- and pliers -2- from gearbox.
-1- = Open-end spanner A/F 13, commercially available
-2- = pliers, commercially available

Fit new cable end-piece to gearbox selector lever and relay lever
  Note
Renew detached cable end-pieces.
–  Apply a small amount of polycarbamide grease -G 052 142 A2- in ball sockets of cable end-piece -A- and end-piece for gate selector cable -B-.
  Note
The seals -arrows- outside the ball socket must be grease-free.

–  Press gear selector cable onto gearbox selector lever and gate selector cable onto relay lever -arrows-.
