Tightening torques > < Removing and installing coil spring

Installing
   
–  Position coil spring with spring compressor -V.A.G 1752/1- on bottom spring seat. End of spring coil must make contact with stop -arrow-.
Tightening torque for hexagon nut on upper spring plate: 60 Nm
The remaining installation steps for the coil spring are carried out in the reverse sequence. Note the following points:
  A40-0162
–  Install suspension strut and secure to suspension turret -arrows-. Tightening torque: 25 Nm
–  Position engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- under wheel bearing housing.
–  Locate suspension strut on wheel bearing housing.
–  Remove wire from wheel bearing housing.
–  Using gearbox jack, carefully raise wheel bearing housing until bolts securing suspension strut/wheel bearing housing can be inserted.
  Note!
Do not press against the ball joint with the gearbox jack.
  A40-0338
–  Apply two beads of locking fluid -D 185 400 A2- on splines as illustrated. Bead diameter approx. 2 mm.
1 - Outer joint
2 - Bead approximately in centre of splines
3 - Bead near beginning of splines
4 - Grease threads of outer joint (stub axle) after assembly with solid grease -G 052 751 A1-.
–  Install new hexagon socket nut.
–  Fit and secure wheel → Chapter.
