Front suspension, drive shafts > < Checking shock absorbers on shock tester
Test results
Test results
The condition of the shock absorbers can only be evaluated as follows:
t  Satisfactory damping effect or
t  Unsatisfactory damping effect
  Note!
t  It is not possible to obtain more detailed readings specifying the exact degree of impairment of damping effect.
t  A forecast of the remaining service life is not permissible.
t  Test results will be falsified if the suspension contacts the bump stops when the readings are taken.
The following values apply only to tests conducted on the test equipment listed above. If the given values are exceeded, this shows that the effectiveness of the shock absorber has decreased by more than 50 %; in this case it should be renewed.
Front axle, basic running gear:

t  a = higher than 45: unsatisfactory damping effect
t  a = lower than 45: satisfactory damping effect
Rear axle, basic running gear:
t  a = higher than 70: unsatisfactory damping effect
t  a = lower than 70: satisfactory damping effect
Front axle, 1.2 TDI running gear:
t  a = higher than 45: unsatisfactory damping effect
t  a = lower than 45: satisfactory damping effect
Rear axle, 1.2 TDI running gear:
t  a = higher than 70: unsatisfactory damping effect
t  a = lower than 70: satisfactory damping effect
Front axle, sports running gear:
t  a = higher than 42: unsatisfactory damping effect
t  a = lower than 42: satisfactory damping effect
Rear axle, sports running gear:
