Disconnecting
  Caution
On vehicles with telematics system, activate service mode of telematics control unit before disconnecting battery → Radio, telephone, navigation, self-diagnosis; Rep. Gr.01.
–  Switch off ignition and take out ignition key.
–  If applicable, remove the load compartment floor from the luggage compartment.
–  Fold the luggage compartment floor covering forwards.
   
–  Loosen nut several turns and disconnect battery clamp -arrow- of earth cable from battery terminal post.
Connecting
–  When connecting battery, attach battery clamp of earth cable to negative battery terminal “–” by hand and tighten nut.
The following measures must be carried out after re-connecting battery:
t  Activate vehicle equipment (radio, radio/navigation system, clock, electric windows) according to operating instructions.
t  Deactivate service mode of telematics control unit → Radio, telephone, navigation, self-diagnosis; Rep. Gr.01.
t  Check operation of remote control and synchronise remote control keys if necessary. Customers should be informed that second and additional keys are also to be synchronised so as to ensure proper operation of remote control function → Owner's manual.
t  Interrogate fault memories of all control units and erase “Undervoltage” fault if necessary → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.
  Note
After re-connecting the power supply, the ABS/ESP warning lamp does not go out until the vehicle has been driven a few metres.
