Removing and installing handbrake cable - four-wheel drive vehicles

Removing

  • ‒ Release handbrake.
  • ‒ Take rear ashtray out of centre console.
  • ‒ → Slacken off adjusting nut -arrow- until handbrake cable can be disengaged from compensator.

Note:

Centre console has been removed in Fig.

  • ‒ → Prise off locking element -1- for handbrake cable.
  • ‒ Press brake lever -2- in direction of arrow and disengage handbrake cable -3-.

  • ‒ → Remove rubber grommet -arrow A- from trailing arm.
  • ‒ Disengage handbrake cable from mount -arrow- and pull out of trailing arm in direction of arrow.

  • ‒ → Pull handbrake cable in direction of arrow out of guide tube -1-.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

  • ‒ Slide handbrake cable into guide tube.
  • ‒ → Press brake lever -2- in direction of arrow and engage handbrake cable -3-.
  • ‒ Press on locking element -1- for handbrake cable.

  • ‒ → Install rubber grommet -arrow A- in trailing arm.
  • ‒ Engage handbrake cable in mount -arrow-.

  • ‒ Engage handbrake cable in compensator.
  • ‒ → Pre-tension handbrake cable with adjusting nut -arrow-.
  • ‒ Adjust handbrake .
