The air conditioner refrigerant circuit must remain closed during all other normal repair operations.

Repair work which can be performed on the heater and air conditioner without opening the refrigerant circuit are described in this workshop manual from page 87-12 onwards.

Note:

The connections for the switches described in this workshop manual are fitted with a valve which closes automatically when the switches are unscrewed. These switches may therefore be replaced with a full refrigerant circuit in any VW and Audi workshop.

Repair work on the air conditioner that requires the refrigerant circuit to be drained and hence cannot be performed in every VW/Audi workshop, is described from page 87-99 onwards (vehicles should be sent to an VW/Audi air conditioning service centre for the refrigerant circuit to be drained).

Repair work on the air conditioner involving the refrigerant circuit can be performed in a VW and Audi air-conditioning service centre only.

Note:

VW and Audi air-conditioning service centres have the requisite equipment, tools and information material for performing repair work on the refrigerant circuit.
