Notes on air conditioner in vehicles with map-controlled heating

In vehicles with map-controlled cooling (gradual introduction into vehicles with 1.6 litre engine as of model year 1999) into model years 1999 and 2000:

  • ‒ Only an operating and display unit -E87 with part number 8L0 820 043 as of index "H" should be installed.

Note:

Only operating and display units -E87 with part number 8L0 820 043 and index "M" (or "N" for Japan) must be installed in vehicles from model year 1999 and 2000 with map-controlled cooling. The indices "H", "J", "K" and "L" are occupied for the changed type of the -E87 (serial introduction as of model year 2001).

  • ‒ If the sender for the central venting temperature -G191 is also present.
  • ‒ The -E87 must be coded according to the other set-up for the engine cooling (the refrigerant temperature is controlled by the engine control unit according to the engine load and is higher when the engine is running at part throttle in comparison to full throttle).

  • ‒ A different heat exchanger is installed in the air conditioner (the heat exchanger is calibrated to the higher refrigerant temperature).

  • ‒ The installation of the air conditioner heat exchanger in the refrigerant circuit has been modified (feed and return lines have been interchanged).
  • ◆ As of model year 2000, the assignment of the ignition key is conveyed by the dash panel insert (data telegram) together with the refrigerant temperature (when ignition is switched on). This information can only be processed by operating and display unit -E87 with part number 8L0 820 043 as of index "H".
