Removing and installing clutch slave cylinder

Removing –  Remove cover panel (front left) -arrows-.

–  If fitted, detach hose -1- for secondary air pump. –  Detach air intake hose at air mass meter -G70- (slacken hose clip -2-). –  Unplug electrical connector for air mass meter -G70--3-. –  Remove bolts -4- and -5- and detach air cleaner housing.

–  Detach cable support bracket from gearbox -arrows-, if necessary unclip pipe/hose assembly.

Vehicles to 06.2001:   Caution Do not remove cable end-pieces from selector shaft lever or relay lever on vehicles up to 06.2001. Cable end-pieces must be renewed after removal. –  Release cable end-pieces for gate selector cable and gear selector cable; push back collar as far as it will go in direction of -arrow 1-, then turn anti-clockwise in direction of -arrow 2- so that it engages. –  Pull selector cables out of cable end-pieces

Vehicles from 07.2001: –  Pull off circlips -3- and -4-. –  Detach gear selector cable from stud on selector shaft lever -1- and gate selector cable from stud on relay lever -2-.

All models: –  Unscrew bolts -arrows- and pull out clutch slave cylinder.

–  Pull out clip -A- as far as stop and detach pipe/hose assembly -C- from clutch slave cylinder. –  Seal off pipe/hose assembly with a plug. Installing Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following: –  Press in clip -A- onto stop. –  Position recess on pipe so that it faces lug on clutch slave cylinder -arrow B-. –  Push pipe -C- into clutch slave cylinder until it engages audibly. –  Lubricate end of operating rod with MoS2 grease before installing clutch slave cylinder. –  Bleed clutch system → Chapter. –  Install cable support bracket, if necessary push hose onto cable support bracket. Vehicles to 06.2001: –  Insert Bowden cables in unlocked cable end-pieces. –  Adjust selector mechanism → Chapter.

Vehicles from 07.2001: –  Spread small amount of polycarbamide grease -G 052 142 A2- onto studs -arrows- of selector shaft lever -1- and relay lever -2-. –  Always renew circlips -3- for gear selector cable and -4- for gate selector cable after removing. All models: –  Install air cleaner housing. Tightening torques
