Should a gear fail to engage smoothly after repeated selection, check the play (lift movement) of the selector shaft as follows:
–  Engage 1st gear.
  N34-0882
–  Press gear lever to the left onto stop and then release while a second mechanic watches the gearbox selector shaft movement.
l  The lift movement of the selector shaft should be approx. 1 mm when the gear lever is moved -double-ended arrow-.
If this is not the case:
–  Repeat gear lever adjustment.
