  Note
t  Gearbox code letters → Chapter.
t  With these gearboxes, the thickness of the shim → Item determines the clearance of brake “B2”.
t  Adjustment instructions for gearboxes with corrugated washer → Chapter.

t  Setting tool -3459-
  W00-0479
t  Depth gauge -VAS 6082-
Procedure
–  To adjust, fit components without shim → Item, without last outer plate → Item and without spring caps → Item.

Determining thickness of shim(s)
The thickness of the shim is governed by gap dimension “x”. This gap dimension is calculated according to the following formula:
   -x- = -a--b- – 2.65 mm
x - Gap dimension
a - Installation position of 2nd and 4th gear brake “B2”; determining value → Anchor
b - Size of ATF pump housing; determining value → Anchor
  Note
t  The illustration shows a sectional view of the assembled brake “B2”. Setting tool -3459- for exerting force -F- on clutch pack is not shown.
t  The value “2.65 mm” takes into account the amount of settling force -F- exerted by setting tool -3459-.
t  The first outer plate -arrow- is 3 mm thick.

  Note
The last outer plate must not be fitted when measuring.

Determining value “a”
–  Assemble planetary gearbox as far as last inner plate for “B2” → Chapter.
  Note
The last outer plate and the shim are not installed.
–  Fit retaining ring with smooth side on last inner plate.
–  Apply setting tool -3459- to retaining ring and turn so that the 3 clips align with the 3 holes for the ATF pump.
–  Bolt setting tool -3459- to flange for ATF pump: tightening torque 5 Nm.
  Note
The clutch pack for “B2” is now pressed together for the measurements.

–  Use depth gauge -VAS 6082- to measure from pump flange/gearbox housing -arrow- to setting tool -3459-.

l  Example of value “a”:
 
Height of setting tool -3459-60.0 mm
– Measured value– 32.3 mm
= Determined value “a” 27.3 mm

–  Detach setting tool -3459-.
–  Remove retaining ring.
   
Determining value “b”
–  Push piston into ATF pump onto stop.
–  Fit paper gasket onto ATF Pump.
–  Place straightedge -B- on stator support -arrows- and use depth gauge -VAS 6082--item A- to measure down to paper gasket on flange of pump.

Measured value39.8 mm
– Straightedge– 19.5 mm
= Determined value “b” 20.3 mm

l  Example for calculating gap “x”:
   x = a – b – 2.65 mm
l  x = 27.3 – 20.3 – 2.65 mm = 4.35 mm
–  Determine shim(s) according to following table: for part numbers refer to → Electronic parts catalogue:

–  Fit three spring caps on compression springs.
–  Fit last outer plate with a thickness of “3 mm”.
   
–  Install correct shim(s) -a-.
–  Fit retaining ring -b- on shim(s).
l  Installation position: smooth side faces shim.
–  Further procedure → Anchor.
