Special tools and workshop equipment required

• ◆ Spark plug spanner 3122 B

• ◆ Compression tester V.A.G 1381 or V.A.G 1763

Requirements for test:

• ● Engine oil temperature not less than 30 °C
• ● Battery voltage not less than 12.7 V

Test sequence

• ‒ Switch off ignition.
• ‒ → Remove fuses for ignition coil and fuel injectors from sockets "10"and "29".

• ‒ → Remove engine cover panel -arrows-.
• ‒ Disconnect spark plug connectors.
• ‒ Remove spark plugs with spark plug spanner 3122B.
• ‒ Fully open throttle valve.
• ‒ Check compressions with compression tester V.A.G 1381 or V.A.G 1763.

Note:

Using the compression tester

=> Operating instructions

• ‒ Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.

Compression pressure:

• ‒ Install spark plugs.
• ‒ Interrogate and erase fault memory:

=> Motronic injection and ignition system; Repair group 24

Note:

Faults will be stored in the memory when fuses are removed. Interrogate and if necessary erase fault memory after completing test.
