Removing

• ‒ Obtain code on vehicles with coded radio/integrated radio and navigation system.
• ‒ With ignition switched off disconnect battery earth strap.
• ‒ Remove ribbed belt .
• ‒ → Remove noise insulation panels (centre and right side) -arrows-.

• ‒ Detach pulley from power steering pump using mandrel for leverage.
• ‒ → Unplug connector -1- from pressure switch for power steering -F88.
• ‒ Unbolt power steering pump -arrows-, move clear towards the side and tie in place. Do not open hydraulic connections.

• ‒ → Disconnect hoses and connector from secondary air pump, remove air pump -arrows-.

• ‒ → Unplug electrical connector -2-
• ‒ Unscrew and disconnect cable -1- at alternator.
• ‒ Unscrew cable clamp and move wiring clear.

• ‒ → Remove bolts -arrows-.
• ‒ Detach alternator and guide out of engine compartment from right side.

Vehicles with air conditioner:

• ‒ Unbolt fan on right side of fan cowl. Lower it clear and tie it to the body. All wiring remains attached.
• ‒ → Disconnect electrical connector -1- for magnetic clutch on air conditioner compressor.

• ‒ Unscrew bolts -arrow- for air conditioner compressor.
• ‒ Drop the compressor down and secure to lock carrier with wire.

All models

• ‒ → Remove ribbed belt tensioning element -arrows-.

• ‒ → Unbolt bracket for auxiliary drives -bolts A ... F-.

Installing

Install in reverse sequence; note the following points:

• ‒ → Tighten bolts in alphabetical sequence to 45 Nm -A ... F- .
• ‒ Install the alternator, power steering pump and air conditioning compressor=>from Page 13-3.
• ‒ Install ribbed belt .

Notes:

• ◆ When the battery is reconnected, re-activate electrical equipment (radio, combined radio/navigation system, clock, electric windows) as described in the Owner's Manual.
• ◆ De-activate service mode in telematics control unit.

Tightening torques
