Testing fuel system for leaks

A leaking fuel system can cause:

  • ◆ Foam build up or air bubbles in the supply pipe
  • ◆ Lack of power, misfiring
  • ◆ Starting problems
  • ‒ Attach adapter 1274/2 A to cooling system tester 1274.

  • ‒ → Unscrew return pipe from injection pump and connect adapter hose in its place.
  • ‒ Attach hose clamps 3093 or 3094 at the following points:
    • ‒ Feed line behind fuel filter
    • ‒ On return hose downstream of fuel filter
    • ‒ On return hose to injection pump
  • ‒ Use hand pump on tester to create a pressure of between 1.0 and 1.5 bar.
  • ‒ If the pressure constantly drops, locate leak and eliminate fault.

Note:

The fuel hoses can also be tested by moving the hose clamps from the filter to the fuel tank connections.
