Checking clutch pedal switch

This signal prevents engine speed fluctuations and load change jolts when the clutch is disengaged and is also required for the cruise control system.

  • ‒ Read measured value block (function 08) and selected display group 19 .

→ Display readout:
Read measured value block 19    ⇒
    1    2    3    4
  • ‒ Check display in display zone 3.
  • Specified value: X X X 1 = Clutch pedal not depressed
  • ‒ Depress clutch pedal.
  • Specified value: X X X 0 = Clutch pedal depressed

Value: X = (no meaning)

If the display is not as described, check the power supply => Page 24-112.

Checking the power supply

  • ‒ Unplug the connector from clutch pedal switch.
  • ‒ Switch on the ignition.
  • ‒ Connect the V.A.G 1527 diode test lamp between contact 1 (positive) on the connector and the engine earth.
  • Specified value: The diode test lamp should light up.

If the diode test lamp does not light up:

  • ‒ If the diode test lamp does not light up, check the wiring from contact 1 on the connector via the fuse to the fuel pump relay for an open circuit or short circuit.

Check the actuation of the clutch pedal switch

  • ‒ → Connect the V.A.G 1598/22 test box to the wiring harness for the engine control unit
    => Page 24-8.
  • ‒ Check the wiring from contact 9 on the engine control unit to the connector on the clutch pedal switch contact 2 for an open circuit or short circuit.
