Final control diagnosis

Notes:

  • ◆ Final control diagnosis can only be performed with engine stopped and ignition switched on.
  • ◆ Final control diagnosis is terminated if engine is started or an engine speed pulse is detected.
  • ◆ During final control diagnosis the individual control elements are actuated for approx. 1 minute or until ⇒ key is pressed to select next control element.
  • ◆ The control elements are checked acoustically or by means of touch.
  • ◆ The electric fuel pump is in operation during the entire final control diagnosis process.
  • ◆ Engine must be started before repeating final control diagnosis (engine control unit must have detected an engine speed greater than 300 rpm).

The final control diagnosis function actuates the following components in the stated sequence:

1. Activated charcoal filter solenoid valve 1 -N80 (fuel tank breather valve)

2. Exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18

3. Secondary air inlet valve -N112

4. Secondary air pump relay -J299

5. Intake manifold changeover valve -N156

6. Camshaft adjustment (camshaft adjustment valve -N205)

7. Injector, cylinder 1 -N30

8. Injector, cylinder 3 -N32

9. Injector, cylinder 4 -N33

10. Injector, cylinder 2 -N31

Test requirements

  • ● Fuses for engine electronics OK
  • ● Fuel pump relay OK
  • ● Motronic current supply relay -J271 OK
  • ‒ Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 or fault reader V.A.G 1551 and select engine electronics control unit with "address word" 01 .
    Ignition must be on.

  • ‒ Press keys 0 and 3 for "Final control diagnosis" function.

  • ‒ Confirm entry with Q key.

Actuating activated charcoal filter solenoid valve -N80 (fuel tank breather valve)

This solenoid valve is actuated (clicks) for approx. 1 minute if ⇒ key is not pressed beforehand to select next control element.

If solenoid valve is not actuated (does not click):

  • ‒ Check activated charcoal filter solenoid valve 1 -N80 => Page 24-132.

Actuating secondary air inlet valve -N112

  • ‒ Press ⇒key.

Secondary air inlet valve -N112

This solenoid valve is actuated (clicks) for approx. 1 minute if ⇒ key is not pressed beforehand to select next control element.

If secondary air inlet valve does not click:

Check secondary air inlet valve .

Actuating secondary air pump relay -J299

  • ‒ Press ⇒key.

Secondary air pump relay -J299
  • Secondary air pump relay -J299 constantly switches secondary air pump motor -V101 on and off for approx. 1 minute if ⇒ key is not pressed beforehand to select next control element.

If secondary air pump motor -V101 does not run intermittently:

Check secondary air pump relay .

Actuating intake manifold changeover solenoid valve -N156

  • ‒ Press ⇒key.

Intake manif. changeover valve -N156

This valve is actuated (clicks) until ⇒ key is pressed to select next control element.

If valve is not actuated (does not click):

  • ‒ Check intake manifold changeover valve -N156 => Page 24-119

Actuating camshaft adjustment valves

  • ‒ Press ⇒key.
 
→ Indicated on display:

Camshaft timing control 1
  • ‒ Camshaft adjustment valves 1 and 2 (-N205 and -N208) are actuated (click) for approx. 1 minute if ⇒key is not pressed beforehand to select next control element.

  • ‒ This solenoid valve is actuated (clicks) until ⇒key is pressed to terminate final control diagnosis.

If solenoid valve is not actuated (does not click), check camshaft adjustment solenoid valve => Page 28-24

Actuating injectors

Note:

The injectors are actuated in line with the firing order, i.e. cyl. 1, cyl. 3, cyl. 4, cyl. 2.
