t  Engine speed adjuster -V.A.G 1788/10-
  Note
t  Vehicle is stationary.
t  Vehicles with automatic gearbox: selector lever in position P or N
t  Electrical equipment switched off (radiator fan must not run during the test).
t  Air conditioner switched off.
t  Coolant temperature at least 80 °C ⇒ Display group 004, display zone 3. Important: Warm up engine if possible by means of a test drive.
  Note
If, within a given step, “OK” is immediately displayed as test result following selection of a display group, the test has already been implemented and it is possible to proceed with the next step.
Work step 1: Interrogating fault memory
  Note
Engine stopped, ignition switched on
–  Connect up the vehicle diagnostic and service information system -VAS 5052- and select the engine electronics control unit.
–  Select the function “Interrogate fault memory”.
The display will show the number of faults stored in the memory or “No fault detected!”.
If a fault has been stored:
–  Eliminate fault, erase fault memory. Perform test drive and interrogate fault memory again as a check.
If there are no faults stored:
–  Press the key.
Work step 2: Erasing fault memory
  Note
Engine stopped, ignition switched on
–  Select the function “Erase fault memory”.
  Note
The readiness code is reset on erasing the fault memory and must therefore be generated again.
–  Press the key.
Work step 3: Adapting throttle valve module to engine control unit
  Note
Engine stopped, ignition switched on
–  Select the function “Start basic setting”.
–  Select “Display group number 060” and confirm.
–  Check the specifications in display zones 3 and 4:

Note  Following adaption, the adaption step counter reaches the number 8 (numbers may also be skipped). If “ERROR” is displayed: Interrogate fault memory → Chapter.

  Note
During adaption, different numbers representing the respective adaption status are displayed in zone 3. The crucial factor is not the behaviour of the adaption step counter (display zone 3) during adaption, but rather that the specification “ADP OK” is displayed in zone 4 after adaption.
If the reading matches the specification “ADP OK”:
–  Press the C key.
Work step 4: Adapting kickdown function → Note
1)  Vehicles with automatic gearbox only
  Note
Engine stopped, ignition switched on
–  Select “Display group number 063”.
  Note
You will then be given the prompt “Operate kickdown”.
–  Fully depress accelerator pedal beyond kickdown point and keep it pressed.
  Note
During kick-down point adaption the display on -V.A.G 1551- shows “Kick-down ADP. running”. Following successful kick-down point adaption, the display on -V.A.G 1551- will show “Kick-down ADP. OK”.
–  Check the readout in display zone 4:

Note   If display shows “ERROR”: Interrogate fault memory → Chapter.

  Note
“ERROR” may be displayed for example if the accelerator pedal is not floored immediately after the tester prompt or if the accelerator pedal is released whilst the adaption process is still running and has not yet been completed. In both cases, exit from “Basic setting” mode and repeat the adaption process.
If the reading matches the specification “ADP OK”:
–  Press the C key.
Work step 5: Checking operating status of Lambda control
–  Start engine (on vehicles with manual gearbox: press clutch pedal)
  Note
After starting the engine it may be necessary to re-select the engine control unit with “address word” 01 and to start the “Basic setting” function with “04”.
–  Fit engine speed adjuster -V.A.G 1788/10- on accelerator pedal and increase engine speed to 2000 rpm.
  Note
Engine running at 2000 rpm
–  Select “Display group number 030”.
–  Check the lambda probe status in display zones 1 and 2.
  Note
It may take several minutes to obtain the result of diagnosis.
