Bleeding coolant circuit
Bleeding coolant circuit
–  Bleed engine coolant circuit as specified → Engine, mechanics; Rep. Gr. 19; Cooling system
  Note
On vehicles without heater coolant shut-off valve -N279-, no additional measures are required to bleed the coolant circuit.
Further procedure for vehicles with auxiliary heater and heater coolant shut-off valve -N279-:
  Note

t  Heater coolant shut-off valve -N279- is currently fitted on all vehicles (discontinuation not yet finalised, depending on engine and vehicle equipment).
t  As heater coolant shut-off valve -N279- is only activated with auxiliary heater switched on and engine stopped, this additional procedure is required to remove any air bubbles from that part of the cooling circuit which is only flushed in auxiliary heating mode.
t  Depending on the coolant temperature, the auxiliary heater may not start (may switch to control interval). To bleed the part of the coolant circuit which is only flushed in auxiliary heating mode, it is sufficient for the circulation pump -V55- of the auxiliary heater to be running (always activated when auxiliary heater is switched on) and the heater coolant shut-off valve -N279- to be activated → Chapter.
–  Switch off engine once it has reached operating temperature.
–  Switch on auxiliary heater with ignition off.
–  After approx. 3 minutes, switch off auxiliary heater and re-start engine.
–  Allow engine to run for approx. 3 minutes at high idle (e.g. 2300 rpm).
–  Switch off engine.
–  Top up coolant if necessary → Engine, mechanics; Rep. Gr. 19; Cooling system.
