Notes on general repair work on vehicles fitted with auxiliary heater
t  Disconnect negative and positive terminals of battery before starting electric welding work on vehicle.
t  If coolant has been drained, bleed auxiliary heater after filling cooling system → Chapter.
t  If parts of fuel system have been removed or renewed, make sure that all components used for extracting fuel for the auxiliary heater are installed properly. Then switch on auxiliary heater and check operation.
t  After performing repairs in area of fuel pipe to auxiliary heater, check that:
–  There is no air in the fuel pipe to the auxiliary heater
–  Fuel pipes are flush with bottom of vehicle and protected against mechanical damage
–  Fuel pipe to auxiliary heater is protected against heat generation which could affect operation
–  Fuel pipe is not making contact with vehicle components which become warm
t  When performing repair work in the area of the fuel delivery unit, make sure that the fuel extraction pipe for auxiliary heater is routed correctly in the fuel tank. If pipe is not routed properly, metering pump -V54- may only supply fuel if tank is completely full (if this is not the case, no fuel is supplied and auxiliary heater is deactivated on account of a fault).
t  If there is not enough fuel in the tank (fuel gauge in “red zone”), auxiliary heater control unit -J364- does not activate auxiliary heater.
t  Prior to activation and during auxiliary heater operation, auxiliary heater control unit -J364- interrogates onboard supply control unit -J519- by way of data bus system. As soon as onboard supply control unit -J519- transmits energy saving information on account of inadequate battery charge or insufficient electrical system voltage, auxiliary heater control unit -J364- switches off auxiliary heater.
t  After removing and installing fuel system components, the auxiliary heater is to be switched on and operated at full load for at least 10 minutes to ensure complete bleeding of the fuel pipe.
