Removing and installing clutch slave cylinder Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Hose clamps, up to 25 mm -3094- Removing   Note t  If you suspect a defective clutch slave cylinder, perform function test prior to renewing → Chapter „Notes on removing and installing clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder“. t  If slave cylinder is removed from gearbox with pipe/hose assembly still attached, make sure you do not press clutch pedal. Otherwise, the piston will be pressed out of the slave cylinder and be destroyed.

Caution When disconnecting the battery there is a risk of serious damage to electronic components: Observe the correct procedure for disconnecting the battery. –  Remove battery → Rep. Gr.27. –  Remove battery tray -arrows- (detach front of battery tray from air duct if applicable).

–  If a plastic pipe is installed between clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder, clamp off supply hose to clutch master cylinder using hose clamp -3094-.

–  If a pipe/hose assembly is installed between clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder, clamp off hose using hose clamp -3094-.   Note

t  In the following steps make sure that no brake fluid escapes onto the longitudinal member or onto the gearbox below. If this does happen, clean the affected area thoroughly. t  Place a cloth underneath to catch escaping brake fluid. –  Release clip -3- with a screwdriver and disconnect pipe/hose assembly -1- or plastic pipe from connection -4-. –  Detach pipe/hose assembly from bracket and move clear to the side.

–  Remove bolts -2- and -3-. –  Remove slave cylinder.   Caution Do not depress clutch pedal after removing clutch slave cylinder.

Installing Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following: –  Connect pipe/hose assembly or plastic pipe -B- to clutch slave cylinder -A- → Fig.. –  Lubricate end of plunger with MoS2 grease. –  Install clutch slave cylinder and tighten bolts -arrows-. Tightening torque → Item –  Engage pipe/hose assembly in bracket -C-. –  Bleed clutch system → Chapter. –  Install battery tray and battery → Rep. Gr.27.
