ATF temperature reading > < Checking ATF level
Test conditions
Test conditions
l  Gearbox must not be in emergency running mode.
l  Vehicle must be level (horizontal).
l  Selector lever in position “P”, engine idling.
l  Air conditioner and heating system switched off.
   
l  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051- connected up; vehicle self-diagnosis and vehicle system “02 - Gearbox electronics” selected.
l  The ATF temperature at the beginning of the test must not be higher than 30° C. If necessary, first allow the gearbox to cool down.
  Note!
t  The ATF temperature is taken from the reading on the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051-.
t  The ATF level will vary in line with the ATF temperature.
t  If the ATF level is checked when the ATF temperature is too low, this will result in overfilling.
t  If the level is checked when the ATF temperature is too high, this will result in underfilling.
t  Both overfilling and underfilling have a detrimental effect on the functioning of the gearbox.
t  Only the ATF available as a replacement part may be used in the automatic gearbox 09G. Other oils cause faults and/or failure of the gearbox, ATF part number → Parts catalogue.
t  The ATF temperature is taken from the reading on the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051-.
