Removing and installing automatic gearbox control unitJ217
Removing and installing automatic gearbox control unit -J217-
Fitting location: the control unit is located in wheel housing (front left).
Removing control unit
–  Remove front wheel (left-side).
–  Remove wheel housing liner (left-side) → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. Gr.66.
   
–  Release connector in -direction of arrow- and unplug it from gearbox control unit.

–  Detach the wiring for turn signal -1- from the bracket on the gearbox control unit.
–  Disconnect side-mounted left turn signal -5- from the wing panel and pull it outwards to the side.
–  Remove bolts -3-.
  Note!
The control unit is still engaged at the back.
–  Push control unit up together with mounting bracket and take it off in the direction of the turn signal opening.
–  Remove bolts -4-.
–  Detach control unit from mounting bracket.
  Note!
When the connectors for the gearbox control unit are disconnected, this resets the adaption values in the gearbox control unit. When it is put back into operation, the control unit has to relearn these adaption values. During this “learning process” the gear change quality may not be as good as usual.
Installing control unit
Perform installation in reverse sequence of removal.
