Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782-

Removing
  Note
t  → Chapter „Repair instructions“.
t  → Chapter „Rules for cleanliness when working on the gearbox“.
–  Remove drive shaft (left-side) → Running gear, front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive; Rep. Gr.40.
–  Place used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- below gearbox.
–  Remove countersunk bolt securing flange shaft (left-side). To do so, screw two bolts into flange and counterhold flange shaft with suitable lever.
–  Pull out flange shaft and spring.
Installing
Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following:
l  Tightening torque → Chapter „Exploded view - flange shaft (left-side), oil seals and bracket for bevel box“
  Note
Renew countersunk bolt securing flange shaft.
–  Push in flange shaft against spring pressure and secure using new bolt.
–  Install drive shaft (left-side) → Running gear, front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive; Rep. Gr.40.
–  → Chapter „Checking gear oil level and topping up“.
