Removing
Vehicles with 4-cylinder 2.0 ltr. TFSI engine:
  Caution
Risk of breaking engine cover panel.
It is important to observe the removal sequence.
–  Carefully detach engine cover panel from positions -1, 2, 3, 4- one after the other.
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Injection and ignition system; Rep. Gr.24.

  Caution
When disconnecting the battery there is a risk of serious damage to electronic components:
Observe the correct procedure for disconnecting the battery.
–  Remove battery → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27.
–  Remove bolts -arrows- and detach battery tray.

–  Lever clip off sealing element using removal lever -80 - 200- and fold up sealing element.

–  If there are hoses and cable connections in area of engine lifting eyes for support bracket -10 - 222 A-, remove these now.
–  Set up support bracket -10 - 222 A- on wing mounting flanges (vehicles up to 05.2008) or on body flanges (vehicles from 05.2008 onwards), as shown in illustration.
–  Partly take up weight of engine with spindle, but do not lift.

Vehicles with 6-cylinder 3.2 ltr. engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Injection and ignition system; Rep. Gr.24.

–  Unbolt bracket for air cleaner housing -arrows-.

–  If there are hoses and cable connections in area of engine lifting eyes for support bracket -10 - 222 A-, remove these now.
–  Set up support bracket -10 - 222 A- on wing mounting flanges (vehicles up to 05.2008) or on body flanges (vehicles from 05.2008 onwards), as shown in illustration.
–  Attach spindles to lifting eye and shackle.
–  Partly take up weight of engine/gearbox assembly via the spindle.

Continued for all vehicles:
–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- to release gearbox support from gearbox mounting.

Removing gearbox support:
  Note
The gearbox support does not have to be removed when removing the gearbox mounting.
–  Remove bolts -1-.
–  Lower engine/gearbox assembly slightly via the spindle.
–  Detach gearbox support -A-.

Removing gearbox mounting:
–  Remove all components which prevent access to bolts -1-.
–  Remove bolts -1-.
–  Take off gearbox mounting -A-.
Installing
Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following:
l  Tightening torques → Chapter „Exploded view - assembly mountings“

Renew bolts which are tightened by turning through a specified angle.
–  Secure gearbox mounting -A-.

If gearbox support -A- has been removed:
–  Install gearbox support -A-.

–  Pull gearbox up with spindle on support bracket until gearbox support contacts support arm of gearbox mounting.
  Caution
The threads in the gearbox support can be damaged if the bolts are not inserted straight.
Before fitting the bolts -arrows-, the gearbox support and the support arm of the gearbox mounting must be aligned absolutely parallel. If necessary, push the gearbox up at the rear with a trolley jack.
–  Adjust assembly mountings → Engine, mechanics; Rep. Gr.10.
–  Secure support arm of gearbox mounting to gearbox support.
–  Detach support bracket -10 - 222 A- from engine.
–  Install battery tray and battery → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27.
–  Install air cleaner housing → Injection and ignition system; Rep. Gr.24.
