Calculating ratio “i”

Example:

i = Z₂ : Z₁ (Z₁ = number of teeth on drive gear, Z₂ = number of teeth on driven gear)

i_G = gear ratio = ZG₂: ZG₁ = 31 : 42 = 0.738

i_A = axle ratio = ZA₂ : ZA₁ = 69 : 22 = 3.136

i_ov = overall ratio = i_G x i_A = 0.738 x 3.6 = 2.315
