Checking oil pressure and oil pressure switch

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342-
t  Voltage tester -V.A.G 1527 B-
t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C-
Test requirements
l  Engine oil level OK, checking → Booklet808.
l  Oil pressure warning lamp must light up for approx. 3 seconds when ignition is switched on.
l  In vehicles with auto-check system, the „OK“ display must light up (select symbol).
l  Engine oil temperature at least 80 °C (radiator fan must have run once).
Test sequence

–  Remove the oil pressure switch -F1--A- and screw it onto tester.
–  Screw tester into oil filter bracket in place of oil pressure switch -F1-.
–  Connect brown wire of tester to earth (–).
–  Connect voltage tester -V.A.G 1527 B- with test leads from auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C- to battery positive (+) and to oil pressure switch -B-. LED must not light up.
–  If LED lights up, renew oil pressure switch -F1-.
If the LED does not light up:
–  Start engine and run at increased speed: at 1.2 ... 1.6 bar pressure the LED should light up, otherwise renew oil pressure switch.
–  Increase engine speed further. At 2,000 rpm and an oil temperature of 80 °C the oil pressure should be between 2.7 ... 4.5 bar.
