Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1921-

Removing
–  Drain off coolant → Chapter.
–  Remove poly V-belt → Chapter.
–  Detach deflector plate -2-.
–  Remove tensioner -1- for poly V-belt.

–  Remove toothed belt from camshaft sprocket → Chapter.
–  Remove the centre toothed belt cover -arrows-.
  Note
t  The belt pulley and toothed belt cover (bottom) do not have to be removed.
t  The toothed belt should be left in position on the crankshaft sprocket.
t  Before removing coolant pump, cover toothed belt with a cloth to protect against coolant.

–  Unscrew bolts -1- for coolant pump and remove coolant pump -2-.
–  Remove O-ring -3-.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

Renew O-ring.
–  Clean and smoothen sealing surface for O-ring as required.
–  Moisten new O-ring -3- with coolant.
–  Fit coolant pump -2-.
l  Installation position: Sealing plug in housing faces downwards.
–  Tighten bolts -1- for coolant pump.
–  Install toothed belt (adjust valve timing) → Anchor.
–  Install poly V-belt → Chapter.
–  Fill cooling system → Anchor.

l  1) Apply locking fluid when installing; refer to → Electronic parts catalogue for locking fluid.
