Removing and installing bracket for ancillaries - vehicles with large engine support
  Note
   
The engine support has to be removed and the engine supported from above in order to remove the bracket for ancillaries on vehicles with large engine support -2-.
Special tools and workshop equipment required

Removing
  Caution
Observe notes on procedure for disconnecting the battery → Rep. Gr.27.
–  Disconnect earth wire at battery with ignition switched off.
–  Remove toothed belt → Chapter.
–  Unplug electrical connector -arrow- at intake manifold flap valve -N316-.
–  Unclip intake manifold flap valve -N316- from bracket and move it aside.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- and remove alternator.
  Note
t  If alternator sticks in its bracket, screw bolt back in again down to the last 2 turns.
t  Tap carefully on bolt heads with flat side of hammer to release bushes of alternator mountings.
–  Swivel alternator towards right side of vehicle with wiring connected.

–  Unplug electrical connector -2-.
–  Unscrew wire -1- and wire clamp -3- at alternator.
–  Lift out alternator.

–  Remove air intake hose (right-side) by lifting retaining clips -arrows- slightly.

–  Unplug electrical connector -3- at air conditioner compressor.
  Note
Disregard items marked -1- and -2-.

–  Unplug electrical connector -2- at charge pressure sender -G31-/intake air temperature sender -G42-.
–  Remove bolts -1- and -3-.
–  Disconnect air pipe from air hose -4- and remove pipe downwards.
  WARNING
The air conditioner refrigerant circuit must not be opened.
  Note
To prevent damage to the air conditioner compressor and refrigerant pipes/hoses, ensure that the pipes and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent.

–  Unscrew bolts -1- and -2- and tie air conditioner compressor up to lock carrier.
  Note
Disregard -item 3-.
  A10-1677
–  Set up support bracket -10 - 222 A- with adapters -10 - 222 A /3- on wing panel flanges.
–  Attach hooks of spindles to lifting eyes.
–  Take up weight of engine evenly with both spindles (but do not raise engine).

–  Remove bolts -1- and -2- and detach connecting bracket.
–  Remove bolts -3 ... 6- and remove engine mounting.

–  Remove bolts -1 ... 3- for engine support.
  Note
To remove the bolts for the engine support, raise or lower the engine slightly as necessary via the spindles on support bracket -10 - 222 A-.
–  Raise engine/gearbox assembly slightly with spindles and remove engine support.

–  Remove the idler roller -arrow-.

–  Remove bracket for ancillaries -bolts 1 ... 6-.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
  Note
Renew the bolts tightened with specified tightening angle.
–  Check that dowel sleeve at top right between bracket for ancillaries and cylinder block is fitted; insert if necessary.
–  First tighten bolts in the sequence -1 ... 6- hand-tight, then tighten to specified torque.
–  Install toothed belt (adjust valve timing) → Anchor.
–  Install engine support → Chapter.
–  Install assembly mountings → Chapter.
–  Install vibration damper → Chapter.
–  Install air conditioner compressor → Rep. Gr.87.
–  Install alternator → Rep. Gr.27.
–  Install poly V-belt → Chapter.
–  Install air pipe → Chapter.
–  Connect battery. Procedures required → Rep. Gr.27.
