Removing and installing trailing arm with mounting bracket > < Renewing bonded rubber bush for wheel bearing housing

Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-
  W00-0428
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1410-
Removing
–  Measure distance from centre of wheel to lower edge of wheel housing → Chapter.
–  Remove coil spring → Chapter.
–  Remove drive shaft → Chapter.
–  Detach brake carrier with brake caliper and attach to body using wire → Rep. gr.46.
  Note
Do not suspend the brake caliper from the brake hose.
–  Remove cross-head screw for brake disc and take off brake disc.

–  Remove bolts -2-.
–  Pull wheel bearing unit out of wheel bearing housing.
  Caution
Avoid dirtying or damaging the seal when laying down or storing the wheel bearing.

The wheel bearing -1- must always be pointing upwards.
–  Always put down the wheel bearing unit with the wheel hub -2- facing downwards.
Installing
Installation is performed in reverse sequence; note the following:
Tightening torques → Chapter „Exploded view of subframe, lower transverse link, upper transverse link, track rod, vehicle level senders“
Tightening torques → Chapter „Exploded view of wheel bearing housing, wheel bearing unit, trailing arm with mounting bracket, stone deflector“
Tightening torques → Chapter „Exploded view of shock absorbers, coil springs“
Tightening torques → Chapter „Exploded view of anti-roll bar“
–  Fit new hexagon bolt and tighten bolt → Item.
–  Check and adjust wheel alignment as required, see chart → Anchor.
  Note
t  First tighten bolt with torque wrench to specified tightening torque.
t  Use fixed wrench to turn bolt further through specified angle.
