Removing and installing coolant pipe (large) Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1921- Removing   Note Fit all heat insulation sleeves in the original position when installing.   Caution Observe notes on procedure for disconnecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27. –  Disconnect earth wire at battery with ignition switched off. –  Drain off coolant → Chapter.

–  Pull off engine cover panel -arrows-.

–  If fitted, detach cover -1- on right of engine compartment.

–  Disengage solenoid valve 1 for activated charcoal filter system -N80--item 1- at air duct. –  Remove bolts -arrows-. –  Remove air duct -2-.

–  Detach air intake pipe from throttle valve module -J338--arrow-.

–  Move electrical wiring clear of air pipe (rear). –  Detach air pipe from air cleaner housing -1- and from retaining stud -2-.

–  Unplug electrical connector -1- at air mass meter -G70-. –  Remove fastener -2- and detach air cleaner housing. –  Remove intake manifold → Rep. Gr.24.   Note

Shown in illustration from rear with engine removed. –  Remove nut -3-. –  Detach connecting pipe for exhaust gas recirculation at coolant pipe (large). –  Open heat insulation sleeve and unplug electrical connector -2- at coolant temperature sender -G62-. –  Remove bolt -1-.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- for bracket for electrical connectors. –  Move wiring clear of coolant pipe (large).

–  Detach coolant hoses -1 ... 4- at coolant pipe (large). –  Unscrew nuts -arrows-. –  Pull coolant pipe (large) to rear out of cylinder head. Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:   Note t  Renew O-rings. t  Fit all heat insulation sleeves in the original position when installing. t  Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) → Parts catalogue. –  Install intake manifold → Rep. Gr.24. –  Observe notes on procedures required after connecting battery → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27. –  Fill cooling system → Anchor. Tightening torques
